We had Riley out to the Maple Syrup Festival in Shepherd on Friday. It turned out to be a really nice day, the last few years it's been raining all weekend.
We strapped him into the stroller and walked through town, hit a couple yard sales but didn't find anything. We saw a friend of mine that I haven't seen in a few years because she moved away. Then we went to the school for the arts and crafts show. Which, isn't really an arts and crafts show anymore. There's very little art, and very little crafting. There was a couple painters, some wood working, some quilts and baked goods. Those are pretty much the craft show staples. And the chipped glassware guy was there as usual, who's stuff is flippin GORGEOUS. I wanted to buy a cup, but didn't have enough cash on me. The last two years he was my booth buddy, having a booth right across the aisle from him. And there were a few jewelry artists there, which I was happy to see. The newer ones were all young girls, which also made me happy. I feel like crafting is something the newer generation just isn't interrested in, so I'm glad there are younger people out there still creating. But it makes me a little upset that every other booth or more is mass manufactured commercial junk. I think they just buy from fingerhut and paper trading catalogues and resell them at festivals. I go there for the arts and crafts, not the 'as seen on tv' mass produced stuff I could get at Wal-Mart or the dollar store.
But Riley had a good time strolling around. Then he sat in the sun with Grandpa Bigard for a little while at their yard sale. He saw Grandpa Leonard a little that day too. I was so happy to see Riley's sunscreen did a good job. I was so worried he'd burn. Unfortunately baby sunscreen is so expensive!
Riley spent most of Saturday with grandma and grandpa Wright, and I hear he was really good for them. That makes me happy because he's had a little case of stranger anxiety lately. Collen and I went to Saginaw and I was worried Riley would just be upset the whole time we were gone. But he was really good, because he's the best baby ever.
